Hookahs, shisha, coals, bowls and hoses at Prestige Smoke Shop on SE 29th Street in Del City, plus help packing a bowl that does not burn. 21+ with ID, open until midnight.
A good hookah session is mostly about heat management, and that is where most people struggle. The hookah itself matters less than people think. Packing the bowl right, using decent coals and keeping the heat steady decide whether you get thick, smooth clouds or a burnt taste ten minutes in.
We carry hookahs, shisha, coals, bowls and hoses at 4715 SE 29th St, a short drive from Shalimar and Smith Village. Shisha is a tobacco product, and we check ID for 21 and up on every sale.
If you already own a hookah and something feels off, bring the part in. A leaky hose or a worn seal is easy to sort out once you find where the air is getting in.

Smaller hookahs set up fast and are easy to move. Taller ones pull smoother and handle a group better. For a small apartment table, go compact.
Stainless steel stems handle heat and cleaning better than cheap plated metal. A wide, heavy base tips over less. Check that the stem seats snug in the base.
A traditional bowl has holes in the bottom and is easy to pack. A phunnel bowl has a raised center spout that keeps juice from dripping down the stem, which suits juicier shisha.
Natural coconut coals burn clean and long but need a burner to light, usually 8 to 10 minutes. Quick-light coals catch in seconds with a lighter but can leave a taste. If you can, go natural.
A washable hose is worth it, because a non-washable one holds on to old flavors. Make sure the hose connector fits your hookah's port.
Sprinkle shisha in loose and fluffy, just below the rim. Tight packing chokes the airflow and burns harsh.
Start with fewer coals and add heat as the session warms up. Most harsh hits come from too many coals at the start.
Fill the base so the stem sits about an inch under the water. Too low and the smoke runs hot, too high and it is hard to pull.
Ash and old flavor build up. Rinse a washable hose after every session and hang it straight down to dry.
All coals give off carbon monoxide. Light and smoke in a well ventilated space every time.
Most of the hookah questions we get are about harshness, and almost every time the answer is the bowl or the coals. We are happy to walk you through packing a bowl right there at the counter.
Our honest advice is to spend on the parts you touch every session, a solid bowl, a washable hose and natural coals. A fancy base is nice to look at, but it will not fix a badly packed bowl.
Hosting a group? Tell us how many people and how long you plan to go, and we will help you figure out how much shisha and how many coals to bring home.
Out of coals at 11 PM? We are open until midnight every day, with parking on site, so the session does not have to end early.
After each session, dump the water and rinse the base. Run warm water through the stem and use a long brush to clear it out. Wash the bowl so old shisha juice does not mix with the next flavor.
Every few sessions, do a deeper clean with warm water and a little lemon juice or baking soda in the base. Skip soap on anything porous, since it can leave a taste behind.

Everything for a hookah night. Here is what our budtenders tell people.
Fruit, mint or a mix. Ask what our regulars buy the most.
Natural coals taste better than quick light coals. They take longer to start but are worth it.
Having people over? Grab a bigger tin so you do not run out.
Hoses, bowls and screens wear out. We carry the parts.
Fill the base so the stem sits about an inch under water, attach the stem and hose, then pack the bowl loosely. Cover it with foil or a heat management device, add lit coals, and give it a few minutes to warm up.
Roughly 15 to 20 grams for a standard bowl, sprinkled loose to just below the rim. A phunnel bowl holds a little less in the ring around the spout.
Most standard bowls take two or three natural cube coals. Start with fewer and add one if the session runs cold.
Usually 8 to 10 minutes on a burner, until they are glowing orange all the way around. Quick-light coals catch in seconds but can affect the taste.
Usually too much heat or a bowl packed too tight. Pull a coal off, loosen the pack next time, and check that your hose and bowl are clean.
