Smith Village is one of the smallest towns in Oklahoma. It covers about three hundredths of a square mile, and the 2020 census counted 49 people. Del City wraps around it on the north, east and south, and Oklahoma City borders it on the west. You can drive past the whole town without knowing you were in it.
The story behind it is a good one. Rose Henrietta Smith inherited a twenty acre farm and split it into lots, which became the Rose Smith Addition. When Del City tried to annex the addition in 1952, the residents voted to incorporate as their own town instead. It has been its own town ever since.
A town that size does not leave much room for stores, so a run for anything means a short drive. Smith Village sits right at the corner of SE 15th Street and Bryant Avenue, so for us it is south on Bryant to SE 29th, then east past Sunnylane. About seven minutes in all.
